David and Tim Learner recently reached out to share their family’s connection to John Lyon School. Both Old Lyonians (OL) and Old Quaintonians (OQ), Tim left in 1966 and David followed in 1972.

Their father, John Leaner was also an OQ and OL (1930). During John's time at school, he excelled in French and Latin, earning multiple prizes and taking part in several French plays. In his final year, he was also awarded Mr A.J. Hoadley’s Prize for Mathematical Problems.

David kindly shared a lovely old photo of his late father, aged just 11 or 12, standing with classmates at the train station. He also shared a story that made us smile: "His family home at that time was in Wembley; as a child he got upset when his playground, just down the hill from him, was expanded and reborn as Wembley Stadium."

Stories like the Learners’ perfectly capture the spirit of our community, symbolising the perfect time to launch our 150th anniversary campaign - Capture 150 Moments.

As we begin building our digital archive and marking 150 years of John Lyon, we’d love to hear from you. Share your stories, memories and photos with us, and help bring our shared history to life!
