Paul Matarewicz, OLA President shares his thoughts on the future of the Association

Just shy of 100 Old Lyonians (OLs), including the Old Lyonian Association President, Head, Senior Deputy Head and guests, came together at the John Lyon School New Memorial Hall to celebrate the 110th Annual Dinner. It has been a while to see a collection of attendees ranging from 17 (Head Boys team and Prefects) to over 80 years of age.

The evening began with a tour of the School to 20 plus OLs by a group of four prefects  Asan U6, Ismael U6, Wesley L6 and Jack L6 -- each of them throughly enjoyed talking about the adaptation and changes to the School environment.

Whilst guest viewed the archive gallery, they were served pre-drinks, providing time to greet fellow classmates, reminise and get a chance to find out about each others' journeys. This was followed by a warm welcome from the Head, Rose Hardy, who spoke about tthe important partnership between OLA and the School, the rich tapestry of the Association, why OL support is vital, cooperation of OLs at  the School's 150th anniversary planning in 2026 and her delight to see many new faces and a range of OLs attending the event.

Paul Matarewicz (OLA President and OL 1976) spoke about the increased engagement and enthusiasm from OLs who have committed their time over the last year and come back to share their career journeys. It was evident that the decision to move the dinner to a Friday night contributed to the increase in attendees this year. Paul talked about the Association, the changes required, continuing with the legacy and the importance of all OL members to help shape the future. We would encourage you all to please fill in the attached short survey -- OLA Survey -- your feedback is valuable. Finally, Paul led tributes to those OLs we have sadly lost.

A huge thank you to Sarah and the entire catering team who delivered a delicious three - course meal, followed by teas and coffees.

The evening was a resounding success with many asking for next year's date to ensure dates are in the diary and OLs have time to facilitate reaching out to their contemporaries.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and to all the positive post event emails received.
