This year I have been the prefect in the Head Boy team with responsibility for Old Lyonians and had the privilege of meeting OLs who have come back to School, both to give careers advice and to visit the School.

Every term, we aim to have two OLs come to talk to boys about their careers or passions.  Last term, we were incredibly lucky to have Timothy West come to give a talk about his career in acting and to share with us his thoughts about going into that career now.  Liam Moore also returned to lay a wreath of Remembrance and while he was here spoke to boys about his career, after JLS and university he served in the army and is now working at J P Morgan.  Later this term, we will welcome back Nik Mehta OBE, who is coming to talk about his current role as the UK’s Deputy Ambassador to South Korea and his time in GCHQ.

As hopefully a medical student next year, I was really inspired by the visits last year we had from Yousuf Salmasi and Curran Patel – both of whom wanted to come in and share their enthusiasm for their career paths and gave us valuable advice which helped many aspiring medics to gain offers from various Universities.

I would urge all OLs who feel passionately about their careers or subject to get in touch with the Lyonian Office. The anecdotes OLs can provide are invaluable to current students who are interested in difficult and different careers. We’d love to welcome you back!
