Poem by Martin Sexton (OL 1958): The Juxtaposition and Viewing Dilemma of County Cricket at Lords

THE JUXTAPOSITION AND VIEWING DILEMMA OF COUNTY CRICKET AT LORDS

County cricket back on the box Hope my team will pull up it’s socks

It’s now on utube for viewers streaming For all to see, the skipper’s

scheming Duke or kookaburra and pitch and weather All affect the

outcome, we must decide whether To travel to watch or stay at home

with a beer Whichever we choose makes a day of good cheer This is the

playground where test stars are born Despite oft slow proceedings,

sometimes forlorn But the small screen close scrutiny reveals the

skills Which are being honed for the opponents ills Far more obvious

than what’s seen on the ground But the bowler’s bar beer is a much

better round
