Harpal spoke about his personal journey since leaving John Lyon in 2018, he graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2021 and went straight into the competitive industry by becoming a Production Secretary.
Since 2022, Harpal has built up an impressive career with credits, including EastEnders, Doctors and the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. With a variety of different job titles, Harpal stated the importance of every role, no matter how big or small the tasks, he's done them all from sending scripts to the printers to interviewing and recruiting Runners (a job he was in only a few years prior). Harpal also gave our students a few interview tips, suggesting they smile and to dress the part!
Whilst studying and working, Harpal made sure to keep his creativity flowing by also being a freelance journalist and radio presenter. He mentioned that his former English teacher, Mr Peel, was a huge inspiration to him. Believing he could make it as a journalist, Mr Peel was the person who suggested starting a blog as a portfolio.
One thing that particularly stuck with pupils was Harpal's message about breaking into the industry:
"In show biz, they say it's who you know. But I don't believe that, because I didn't know anyone. It's not about who you know, it's about who knows you."
A huge thank you to Harpal, we can't wait to see where else your career takes you!
