It’s been a fantastic and inspiring #NationalCareersWeek at John Lyon.
Our visiting alumni have been incredible, leading career workshops, sharing their journeys and speaking openly about both the challenges and successes they’ve experienced. They’ve highlighted the importance of resilience, the value of strong networks and how the foundations built at Joh Lyon continue to shape their paths today.
We’ve welcomed alumni working across a wide range of fields including private banking, investment banking, engineering, and professional sport. Each has offered a unique insight into their profession, showing our pupils the breadth of opportunities available and inspiring them to think ambitiously about their own futures.
A huge thank you to our OL Community for contributing to such a meaningful week. We’re incredibly grateful to Mitesh Hathiramani (OL 2009), Stephen Moroukian (OL 1989), Jeevan Sharma (OL 2015), and Kristian McPhee (OL 2009), for joining us.
Kristian also kindly delivered a Goldhawk Lecture to our Sixth Form students on building a high-performance environment, sharing practical advice on scheduling, building a strong support network, and developing key habits.
We are equally grateful to the parents who gave their time to share their journeys — including one working with the World Food Programme at the United Nations, and another working as a sustainable fashion advocate.
To celebrate World Book Day on 5 March, we welcomed Ian Whybrow, former Head of English and Sixth Form, who spent over 30 years at JLS before becoming a celebrated children’s author. Ian has written more than 100 books, including the Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs series, later adapted into an animated television show. Pupils from both Prep and Senior were delighted to meet him and brought along their books for him to sign.
This week has been filled with very special moments for our students.
