The Old Lyonian Association Annual Dinner 2019 was a fantastic evening of food and drink, and above all friendship.

We were delighted to welcome back a great representation from the Class of 1989 - Dave Berman must get the credit for doing an amazing job to gather his year together with countless emails, tenacity and perhaps the odd threat.  Over 30 of the Class of 1989 came, arriving early for a tour of the School and staying late to get to know each other and the White Horse a bit better.  Reliving some of their days at JLS, they also did a very convincing re-enactment of being the naughty boys at the back of the class…

OLs came from across the decades, with Alan Bennett who joined in 1946, David Muriss, Paul Montague and George Done who all joined in 1947 to our current head boy team.  They caught up, shared memories and enjoyed a great supper with plenty of wine to keep them going.  While the Class of 1989 definitely takes the prize for rowdiest on the night, the Class of 2009 were certainly warming up for their 10 years on reunion later this term and Kwasi must be commended for his excellent singing of 40 years on!

Although the evening was markedly light-hearted and jovial, there was a more serious note, when Michael Foster and Mike Geelan appealed to fellows OLs to join the campaign to provide a bursary in memory of Mike's brother, Jeremy Geelan.  For more information about the bursary appeal, please click here

But it was an impromptu speech by Paul Frampton which captured the essence of the evening, where he gave thanks for the friendship around him.  We very much hope that more friends will come back next year.  More photos in the gallery below.
