On Founder's Day, 27th September, we were very pleased to welcome back to John Lyon School over 20 Old Lyonians, all of whom left the School at least 50 years ago. In celebrating the Founder, it is worth reflecting on his gift which lives on not only in John Lyon School and Harrow School but in the John Lyon Charity. For those unfamiliar with it and the scale of its work, it is a grant-giving charity which since 1991 has spent over £120 million on a variety of projects including youth clubs, supplementary schools, sports initiatives and Arts programmes - supporting some of the most deprived families in London.
The celebration of our extraordinary Founder began with slightly less extraordinary coffees at Le Beau House - though the pastries were very good! Coffees were followed by tours of the School led by our current prefects.
A moving service at St Mary's followed, with welcomes from Katherine Haynes, our Head, and the vicar of St Mary's and an address from the Mayor of Harrow. The Motet Choir sang Handel's
Hallelujah Chorus, and everyone joined the choir in singing
Sing to God, the National Anthem and the new School song.
We returned to School for a Founder's Feast of roast chicken or beef in a horseradish sauce followed by the popular choice of chocolate chip and cranberry sponge with custard, and of course more coffee!
It was great to see so many people returning to School for a second year as well as those who attended for the first time!

Dennis Hall (OL 1951 - 1955) brought with him a challenge: to name all the faces in the picture below from the OLA 1966 season. Please add you comments to name the OLs (we have the answers, so yours will be marked out of 12!)!
