Remembrance |
It was in Feb 1973 that Margaret joined the staff of John Lyon School becoming Campaign Secretary of the Centenary Development Fund, then Secretary to the Masters in the Common Room and involved with production of the Lyonian Magazine. Throughout her long life and well into retirement Margaret devoted a considerable amount of time to the wellbeing of all her family, supporting them to the full and doing valuable charitable work especially for The Save the Children Fund.
"I have two memories of my mother's time at The School; one-she would bring internal exam papers home she had typed on the duplicator stencils to get them proof read either by my father or more often my grandmother who also been a school secretary and two-before I joined JL in 1976 I was at Roxeth School just up the hill and at the end of the school day at 3.30pm I would walk down Byron Hill Road and into the Red House and wait for my mum to finish her day at 4.00pm either in her office at the top of the building or the waiting room just along from The Headmasters office. One afternoon I went straight up to mum's office where she had a visitor-my hero Ronnie Barker discussing covenants to The School!" - Keith Palmer OL 1983
