Barry Marshall-Johnson, OL 1964 recently contacted the Alumni Office to inform us about the sad passing of Bob Merrifield, who after several years fighting serious medical conditions, died on August 1st 2024 aged 78.

Barry said, ‘A Lyonian like his father before him, Bob attended John Lyon School from 1957 to 1964 before he went up to Cambridge. 

Bob was a talented batsman at school and took that talent with him to Devon where he moved after university, so much so that in 1984 he made the highest score every recorded in Devon League cricket, 255 runs off 143 balls. Stoic to the end he maintained his sense of humour and love beer and life'.
