It was a pleasure to welcome Anthony Bannard-Smith, John Connor, Gordon Lindsay and David French and their wives, Class of 1970 on Thursday 23rd September 2021 back to John Lyon School, 50 years later!

A sign that we are looking to resume back to normality with inviting visitors back to School in person. Since the start of the pandemic we have not been able to host our usual events so this was a wonderful way to start the new term and a sign of what will continue we hope!

The day started with a cup of coffee and some delicious biscuits, supplied not by Top or Bottom Missus but our wonderful in-house caterers. Andy Sims, Deputy Head, joined us briefly where Andy and Anthony realised they had both been at Churchill together for a number of years!

A tour of the School followed, led by Abbas Abedi (academic and OL prefect) and David Self (events prefect), who guided us round the buildings new and old. We then took a break for lunch where the Head who joined us as we all lined up in the dining hall just like the School pupils to choose our lunches. The quorn pasta went down particularly well!

The OLs all left suitably impressed with the renovations and growth of the School whilst still able to recognise what was, and were most pleased by the friendly atmosphere they felt during their visit.

If you would like to return to School for a visit do not hesitate to get in touch with the Alumni Office - lyonianassociation@johnlyon.org

"The school has undergone huge change in the last 50 years, most probably in the last 10 years.  We all felt welcoming girl students will be good for balanced minds -  and expansion with the acquisition of Quainton Hall will afford strategic educational opportunities.    As we said goodbye to you and each other we parted and left school with some degree of envy - to be back as a pupil at the John Lyon of today!" - Anthony Bannard-Smith OL 1970
