| Capture 150 Moments |
Mike reminisced on his time being the school's 1st XI Cricket captain in 1978, claiming "it wasn't a vintage, but we won more than we lost".
Whilst Mike captained his classmates, his father Brian Smith (OL 1946) captained the Old Lyonians team. For the first time in John Lyon's history, Mike and Brian had the unique experience of going head-to-head during the Pupils vs Old Lyonians match on Association Day. He ended his story stating, "I don't have the scorecard, but I believe we may have lost!"
After his father retired, Mike continued in his footsteps and went on to captain the Old Boys for 10 years. One match, he managed to drag Brian out of retirement to play when we were one short, drastically resulting in a displaced knee and an ambulance trip up from the field at Pinner View.
As we mark the 150 years of John Lyon, we’d love to hear from you. Share your stories, memories, and photos with us, and help bring our shared history to life! Email us here: lyonianassociation@johnlyon.org
